Before the Session: Preparing for your Reiki Experience

If you’re booked in for an in-person Reiki session, there’s nothing you need to prepare in a complicated way.

It’s simply about arriving as you are, with a few small things that can support your experience:

Wear comfortable clothing

You’ll remain fully clothed during Reiki, so choose something you can relax in. Soft, loose, and not restrictive.

Stay hydrated

Having some water before your session can support your body, and continuing to drink water afterwards can help things settle and integrate.

Avoid a heavy meal

Try not to arrive feeling overly full. A light meal or snack beforehand is ideal so your body isn’t focused on digestion while you’re on the table.

If you’re coming from a massage

For those booking a combined session at Zen Within with massage and Reiki, you may move straight from one into the other. You may already be settled on the table when I come into the room, and we may not have a full conversation beforehand. That’s completely okay.

Reiki doesn’t rely on words. You don’t need to have any prior experience with Reiki, or even understand how it works. You’re welcome to simply come as you are. Your body already knows what is asking for attention. Working with the source of Reiki, the session will follow what is present without needing to talk it through first.

During your session

You will be lying on your back, with support and a blanket if needed. The session itself is mostly quiet, allowing you to rest while I work.

You may notice different sensations as energy moves through the body. This can show up as burping, stomach gurgling, or emotional release. You may fall asleep,

and yes, that can include snoring.

All of this is completely normal.

If emotions arise, they are welcomed, but nothing will be pushed or brought up intentionally.

There is nothing you need to hold in or manage. You have permission to let your body respond in whatever way it needs to, without concern about how it looks or sounds.

If you feel any discomfort in your body, you are welcome to adjust your position at any time. You are also welcome to let me know if you need anything to feel more comfortable.

Reiki itself should not cause pain, but your body may already be holding areas of tension or sensitivity, and it is important that you feel able to move or shift as needed.

You are always in control of your experience, and you’re welcome to speak up or make adjustments at any time.

If you would prefer no physical touch, please let me know. I can work within your energy field without hands-on contact. Hands may be placed lightly on areas such as the head, shoulders, arms or feet, or just above the body.

At times, I may be working just above your body, particularly from the throat down to the torso. If you can’t feel my hands on you, please know I am still connected and present with you.

After your session

I will let you know when the session has finished, so you can rest without wondering what is expected of you.

When you’re ready, take your time getting up. You may feel deeply relaxed or a little disoriented, and there is no need to rush.

Continue to drink water, and if you can, allow yourself a little space before returning to a busy environment. You may continue to notice subtle shifts over the next day or two, or you may simply feel as you normally do. Both are completely valid responses. I will usually check in with you within 48 hours after your session to see how you are going with the energetic integration.

Reiki is not about fixing or forcing change. It is a space where your system can recalibrate in its own way, in its own timing.

And that begins the moment you arrive.

If you feel drawn to experience this for yourself, you’re very welcome to book a session.
